Frequently asked questions

Is there a draft? How is my player assigned to a Division?

We will hold player evaluations in early January (for all players who are interested in playing in our AA, AAA and Majors Divisions). There are no cuts and all players will be assigned to a Division and team based on ability level. There are no player evaluations for our Wiffle, T-ball or Junior Divisions.

Do you have buddy requests?

Yes, but only for Wiffle and T-ball. Parents may indicate through the registration form if they would like their child to play on the same team as friends. However, buddy requests are not guaranteed.

What is the registration fee?

The registration fee varies according to Baseball Age (early bird discount of $50 through November 30). This covers field permits, umpires, equipment, insurance, etc. for the season. We also offer a $50 family discount for multiple siblings registered (maximum $50 discount per family). If you would like to request financial assistance, please reach out to [email protected]. We believe in providing the opportunity to play youth baseball to all in our community.

What other costs can I expect?

Families will need to purchase a team jersey (~$35). Other required equipment includes: batting helmet, baseball glove, baseball pants, belt and cleats.

When are practices and games?

Practices will begin in early February. The practice schedule is made according to coach availability.

Provisional game days (based on 2025 season; subject to change):

Wiffle Ball - Saturday mornings
T-ball - Saturday / Sunday mornings
Single A - Sundays (mornings and afternoons)
AA - Sundays (mornings and afternoons)
AAA - Saturdays (mornings and afternoons); Tuesday and Thursday evenings
Majors - Game days vary throughout the season
Juniors - Game schedule determined by District 52

Please volunteer!

We are a 100% volunteer-run league. We depend on parents like you to step up as head coaches, assistant coaches, and team parents. We need team parents to help with field prep on game days, manage the dugout for the younger divisions, stream and score on GameChanger, organize snacks and end-of-season celebrations, etc. Please consider volunteering for one of these roles during the registration process.

2026 Spring Season - San Mateo National LL

This registration session will allow you to complete contact information, sign up for participation, and submit payment for the Spring 2025 season at San Mateo National Little League ("SMNLL"). If you are a returning member of our community, welcome back! If you are new to our league, we are thrilled to have you join our SMNLL family! Our early bird registration discount of $50 per registration is available through November 16th, 2025 for all divisions except Wiffle Ball. We also offer family registration discounts. The early bird and family registration discounts are applied at checkout.

SMNLL has been serving our community since 1955. Some great athletes began their baseball careers and excelled within our league over our long history, including Tom Brady, Nick Vanos, and many others who went on to play baseball at the high school and collegiate levels.

The core mission of SMNLL throughout the years is a commitment to providing the best baseball experience possible for our:

SMNLL is about creating winners, not necessarily reflected on the scoreboard, but from using the baseball experience to teach our players the importance of hard work, commitment, being a good teammate, and how to be effective leaders. All of these skill sets are important skills in athletic and outside of the playing field.
